Scholarship for Phd in Australia on APAI PhD Scholarships Plant Molecular Biology.
Project Summary: These PhD projects are part of two ARC Linkage projects in collaboration with CSR Sugar Ltd to investigate the molecular and physiological effects of expression in sugarcane of genes that influence sugar metabolism. Applicants will have the opportunity fo choose between several projects that range from fundamental to applied research in areas such as the mechanisms of transgene silencing, the control of gene expression and the effects of enzymes for biosynthesis of high-value sugars in different cellular compartments.

The research will be undertaken primarily within the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences, The University of Queensland. The research team is headed by Professor Robert Birch in collaboration with Dr Bernie Carroll and Dr Mick Graham.
Eligibility:

Applicants must :
  • Be Australian citizens or have Permanent Resident Status;
  • Have achieved Honours Class 1 or equivalent; and
  • Have a background in relevant disciplines including molecular biology, cell biology, genomics or biochemistry, and an interest in plant biotechnology.
