Scholarship for Phd Programs position is available at the Department of Medicine I (Chair: Prof. Dr. P. P. Nawroth), University of Heidelberg Germany. We are investigating the role of the coagulation system and protease dependent cellular signalling for the manifestation and progression of diabetic micro- and macrovascular complications. Mouse models with targeted mutations within the coagulation system are available for the analyses of diabetic complications (Isermann, JCI 2001; Isermann, Nat. Med. 2003, 8:687-693; Isermann, Nat. Med. 2007).

In addition to in vivo work an in vitro approach will be used to define the role of hemostasis for vascular complications in diabetes mellitus. The establishement of new transgenic and/or knock out models is strongly encouraged. Applicants should be highly motivated and should be skilled in the manipulation of mice. Expertise with molecular biology and protein biochemistry and experience in cell biology and animal models will receive high consideration.

The position is funded initially for 2 years with the option of extension. Applicants should send a detailed CV and two references to: Dr. B. Isermann, Innere Medizin, Abt. I, Im Neuenheimer Feld 410, 69115 Heidelberg, Germany (berend.isermann@med.uni-heidelberg.de).
